Advising

Advising is the key to registering for courses. Advising in the department is handled by the faculty. It is your responsibility to double-check who your advisor is and to set an appointment for advising, either through email, Google Sheets, or whatever particular appointment calendar your advisor uses. You will typically receive at least two email notices about advising – we encourage you to set your appointment early so that you can get the permit numbers for the classes you want.

Permit numbers

Most of the upper level courses in ENSC and GEOL require a permit number before you can register.  Permit numbers are authorized and provided during advising AND they essentially “hold you seat” in the class until registration.  Because of this, if you decide NOT to register for that course after all, please let the department know so that seat can be released to someone on the wait list.
